Somnium Space is moving full speed ahead with building an Open & Immersive Metaverse; announced partnerships, updates and products during Somnium Connect Conference in Prague.
On December 20th, the very first Somnium Connect conference was held in Prague, the stunningly beautiful capital of the Czech Republic. At Somnium Space, we never sit still and we were proud to announce the following exciting partnerships, product developments and other initiatives.
Standalone, Modular and Open Source VR Headset
Somnium Space is an open, persistent VR world and we strongly believe that users should have the right of choice and fully own their creations, the assets they purchase and their data. This implies that being dependent on closed, third party ecosystems when it comes to VR headsets, is in direct contradiction with our vision. We cannot allow hardware gatekeepers to create silos and be in full control over user experience and user data.
We were therefore extremely proud and excited to reveal specification details of our very own VR headset, which we develop in partnership with vrgineers, the manufacturer of high-resolution, professional XTAL.
To stay true to everything we stand for, the VR headset features specifications not seen in any headset on the market today. When you purchase a headset we want you to fully own it; it will be modular, open source, modifiable and programmable.
Giving users and the user community the power to adapt the headset is in and of itself revolutionary. But apart from that, we do not settle for run of the mill technology when it comes to performance and ease of use. The headset will feature 2x 3.2 inch 2880RGB * 2880 Fast LCD, support both wireless (standalone) and native wired modes, feature custom made XTAL like lenses, offer horizontal FOV > 115° and much more. Somnium Space Creators Fund 2022
One of the many highlights of 2021 has been the Somnium Creators Fund, which has been running for 6 months and nothing short of a huge success. It is ‘Shark Tank’ meets ‘Late Night Show’ and the reception has been amazing. We had more than 40 applicants and alumni and distributed more than $60,000 in Somnium CUBEs. People pitched amazing ideas right in VR and unleashed true creativity. With Creators Fund money they were able to spend more time in VR and work on their ideas.
For 2022 we are proud to announce that the Somnium Space Creators Fund will partner with some amazing companies to turbo-charge the ecosystem and people’s ideas and creativity. Those amazing and visionary partners are Gemini, GSR, Chris Bell, MOCA and Admix.

We are proud to announce that together with our partners we have secured $500,000+ in Somnium CUBEs. This means the Creators Fund will grow 10 times as big allowing more Somnium creators to pitch more amazing projects.
It doesn’t stop there. We will also allow Web3 startups to send in their presentations for an opportunity to pitch their ideas in VR in front of a jury.

Open Avatars API
Another huge success in 2021 has been the Avatars SDK, allowing our community to create and tokenize Avatars. Avatar creators have generated revenue in excess of $500,000, which is a huge milestone. Key pillars behind this success are the easy and affordable process, the security and of course the amazing and helpful community that has taken avatar creation inside Somnium to amazing new levels.
But we will go even further. We believe in interoperability and we are working on opening up our Somnium avatar system for other apps and platforms, which will allow Somnium NFT avatars to be seamlessly transformed to other worlds. Stay tuned for more information on this.
$CUBE Ecosystem
Already today Somnium Space’s utility token CUBE is an integral part of Somnium and it has done very well this year. You can buy Somnium WORLDs, cars, avatars, items, land parcels and more for CUBEs. You can freely trade and exchange them on the centralized, highly secure Gemini exchange as well as on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap for example.
In addition to Avatars minting, in 2022 we will introduce the SDK for Items minting so that you will not only be able to create avatars but any item you like, whether it be hoverboards, cars, chairs, tables, wearables, you name it. It will be a very easy process in our PC client using CUBEs for the minting process. And close to free in terms of gas prices because we will use Polygon.
But we keep expanding. While our ideas are not fully finalized we are planning the ability to stake and lock CUBEs to get access to certain assets, like land parcels, WORLDs, etc., thus overcoming high asset prices, which can be a barrier for entry for some people. Another aspect will be the introduction of Somnium Wallet and a native Somnium Marketplace for easy trading and an automatic renting solution. The Marketplace will represent a big leap allowing easy exchange of assets, play to earn monetization models and more.
Moreover in first half of 2022 Karma system will kick in and will allow players to be rewarded for positive actions inside the our Metaverse. Teleportation HUBs payments will be also launched this year allowing TP owners to monetize their assets while providing travel services.
