The first Czech National Theater NFT
In partnership with SOPRG and Somnium Space.
The current digital era has brought with it a new conception of art, and thus requires novel approaches to its presentation. While honoring the national heritage, the National Theater, a true gem of the Czech arts scene, has often also been a trailblazer of new trends. In line with the policy of modern-day digital philanthropy, the prime Czech cultural institution has decided to come up with its very first NFT (non-fungible token). Using a blockchain ledger, the National Theater is entering the digital world.
The NFT is an iconic photograph capturing the Czech National Ballet first soloist Nikola Márová in the role of Odette. The unique picture shows her in a fateful moment in Act 2 of Swan Lake, a pivotal work of the classical ballet repertoire.
The first encounter between Odette and Prince Siegfried. A single second can encapsulate an entire destiny, as stories unfurl at several levels, and their endings may be tragic and painful. Yet the photo depicts Odette still dreaming…
The auction of the very first National Theater NFT will commence on the 19th of October 2022 at 9 P.M. CET and will last for five days.
The online event will take place inside the Somnium Space Metaverse platform at parcel ➡️ www.somniumspace.com/parcel/3250
The auspices over the auction, whose aim it is to support the Czech National Ballet, have been assumed by the National Theater Benefactors’ Club. The owner of the NFT will contribute to the foundation of a new National Theater rehabilitation and physiotherapy center, focused on comprehensive diagnostics and cure of musculoskeletal disorders. The body is the tool of the dancer’s trade, and the human body is frail. The ever-increasing requirements for expression by means of movement and the ever-rising physical limits necessitate special rehabilitation and physiotherapy approaches.
The photo was taken by Pavel Hejný.
The work was supported by SOPRG , the Somnium Space based NFT Gallery of the Průcha family from Prague’s Malá Strana district.
